Zanzibar
Zanzibar is well known for its beautiful beaches, historical sites and exotic spices that bring the world to the island in numbers but this weekend all eyes and ears were on Serengeti Dance la Fiesta. It was quite a wonderful sight to see as people of all ages came to dance their hearts away.
Even with interludes of downpour hundreds still turned out at the historic Ngome Kongwe amphitheatre to witness young men and women get into the groove for a possible place to represent Zanzibar at the Dar-es-salaam Serengeti Dance la Fiesta finals.
Every group eagerly awaited their turn to wow the audience with their dance moves at the fully packed arena which is famed for hosting events like the ZIFF and Sauti Za Busara.
Seven groups turned out for the contest that witnessed abundance of skills which was evident of serious effort put in the choreography by the different youthful groups.
The groups were Ma Lovey Dovey, Face to Face, B6, B4, B5, UB40 and Sniper Boys who tried to outdo one another in the three-round contest.
The groups showcased a wide range of dance moves backed by mixed tapes ranging from modern to traditional music.
The panel of judges was headlined by Clouds FM B12, THT lead dancer Msami, Thomson Qwhisar and Zanzibar’s own Baby J, who were definitely swept away by the talent on display.
“The talent in Zanzibar is amazing, and although it has been raining, it has not dampened people’s spirits and the day ended up being a truly golden one,” said Hamisi Mandi aka B12.
The Zanzibar Serengeti Dance la Fiesta, follows another contest that took place a week ago at La Casa Chica in Tanga.
Serengeti Dance la Fiesta is part of the ‘Golden Moments Campaign’ for Premium Serengeti Lager. This campaign will have a series of fun events like the ‘Serengeti Fiesta Film, ‘Serengeti Fiesta freestyle battle’ and ‘Serengeti Fiesta Soccer Bonanza.
A day filled with golden moments, as the crowd present, participating dancers and the winners themselves had amazing things to say of their personal moments of gold and off course were quick to note that is through such great sponsorships that one is able to bring out the talents in them and commended Serengeti Breweries for this .
At the end of the contest B6, Face 2 Face and UB40 danced their way to the final that will take place in Dar-es-salaam on a date yet to be mentioned. Teddy Mapunda
