After nine consecutive successful festival editions from 2004 to 2012 and a period of reflection, the Amakula International Film Festival is now set to return to the scene and screen to celebrate its 10th anniversary edition in March 2016. For more Information Zanzibar International Film Festival Each year ZIFF exhibits more than 60 films made in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Latin America, USA and Asia. The theme of the 2016 Festival is This Journey of Ours: Ndiyo hii Safari Yetu. The main competition for the Golden Dhow and Silver Dhow awards is open exclusively to filmmakers from the Dhow countries. These include countries of the Indian Ocean Rim and Indian Ocean Islands, such as Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan; and all African countries. The Sembene Ousmane Award Competition is only for African and Diaspora filmmakers and partner producers. ZIFF is accepting feature, short, fiction, documentary and animation film submissions, with a particular focus on films produced by African and Dhow country directors. Online submissions from Tanzania are free, as well as music video entries from East Africa. All other submissions are $3-$5. The deadline for submissions is 29 February 2016. For more infromation Durban International Film Festival The Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) invites filmmakers from across the world to submit their Short, Documentary or Feature Fiction films to screen in the festival from the 16 to 26 June 2016. Only films completed in 2014, 2015 and 2016 will be considered, and there is no charge for entry. The deadline for all entries (short films, documentaries and feature fiction films), including delivery of screeners, is 29 February 2016. This year’s festival will feature a focus on the important issue of HIV and Aids within film; DIFF invites filmmakers with films on this subject to submit for consideration in this category. For more information International Images Film Festival for Women The International Images Film Festival for Women (IIFF) 2016 retains the theme WOMEN ALIVE: WOMEN OF HEART! The theme celebrates for the third year running tough women who possess the rare gift of loving unconditionally; daring women, women who despite daily challenges emerge stronger. The Festival is calling for features, documentaries and shorts in all genres for the main competition as well as non-competition and special competitions categories. To be eligible for the main competition, films must feature a woman in one of the three leading roles. Deadline is 15 May 2016.
