Hosts Tanzania reached the quarter finals of the Cecafa Cup on Saturday thanks to their 2-0 win over ten-man Burundi.Burundi were down to ten men late in the game when one of their defenders Nzeyimana Hussein was shown a second yellow. The victory left the home side on six points, one less than leaders Zambia who are also through to the last eight. Uganda Cranes take on Zanzibar in the CECAFA CUP quarter-finals on Wednesday afternoon. Cranes, the defending champions, advanced as Group C leaders after a 2-0 win over regional rivals Harambee Stars of Kenya in the last preliminary match of the tournament yesterday. The result also marked the end for Kenyan coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee as he decided to quit the post. The impressive Emma Okwi opened the scoring on 85 minutes and Andy Mwesigwa converted a stoppage time penalty after Kenyan keeper Boniface Oluoch brought down substitute Robert Ssentongo for the Cranes to top the group with seven points. Oluoch received his marching order in the process. Mulee said he takes full responsibility for the poor performance of his side in the tournament. “If you cannot win a single match in CECAFA, then you don’t deserve to be the coach of the side,” Mulee said.
