M-NET’S BIG BROTHER AMPLIFIED

Nominations returned with a vengeance in the ‘Heads’ house on Monday (23 May) on M-Net’s Big Brother Amplified (24/7 on DStv Channel 198) as 5 Housemates find themselves in with a chance of being evicted this week. Once the dust had settled, Bernadina, Confidence, Michael, Sharon O and Vina found themselves up for eviction. Once all the nominations were in, Head of House Vimbai had an opportunity to influence the final list – which she did, saving Hanni and replacing her with Michael. Hanni had actually led the nominations, with 5 – including one from former flame Lomwe.
Nominations kicked off with Wendall, who nominated Sharon O because she was ‘sly’ and ‘lazy’. His second nomination went to Vina, who he said was one of the strongest women in the house and was playing the other women against each other without them noticing.
Zeus also nominated Sharon O, because she was flying under the radar and it was time someone gave her a shake up. His second nomination went to Bernadina, because he felt she was also ‘fading into the background’.
Michael nominated Vina and Confidence for eviction this week – the former because he felt he hadn't connected with her and doesn't think she likes him, and the latter because, in his words, ‘she is a very complicated girl’.
Lomwe also nominated Confidence because he felt she didn't know how to live with other people. He said that she was bossy and that since everyone in the Big Brother Amplified house was equal, they should all be treated with respect. His second nomination was a shocker, as he named one-time love interest Hanni. He said he couldn't trust her anymore, as she had been involved in pranks - and when confronted, had lied about it.
Confidence nominated Millicent because she was convinced that the Kenyan had nominated her two weeks ago. She then nominated Sharon O, whom she called "pretty girl" and claiming that doesn't pull her weight in the kitchen.
Weza took a long time to ponder her choices before nominating Zeus and Wendall. She chose Zeus because she felt he had a strong enough character to face eviction and survive it and Wendall, for no other reason than that she had to nominate a second Housemate.
Sharon nominated Vimbai, because she could save herself. When Big Brother pressed her for another reason, she had a lot of flattering things to say about the Zimbabwean before finally admitting that her nomination was based on her perception that she saw Vimbai as serious competition. She also nominated Hanni, because she is strong, but hadn't yet come out of her shell.
Hanni nominated Wendall and said he is the kind that can be friends with one but still not know the real them. Her second nomination went to Bernadina, because she couldn’t understand what the Namibian brings to the table, though she did admit that Bernadina was ‘a very pleasant person to be around’. Millicent also nominated Bernadina, saying that she could achieve a lot outside the house, because of her tender age and musical talent. Unconvinced by her reasoning, Big Brother probed deeper and eventually Millicent admitted that her nomination was based on the fact that she saw Bernadina as a serious contender in the game. Her second nomination went to Hanni, ‘for her own good’ as she also felt the Ethiopian should leave the house to pursue her music career.
· Vimbai told Big Brother she was nominating Michael because she was offended by the false statements made by Michael about her country of birth. She then nominated Weza, because she felt the Angolan could have come to her directly about her ‘gripe’, rather than telling the other Housemates.
Bernadina nominated Hanni, saying that there had been incidents in the house that the Ethiopian could have handled better, but instead she had chosen to ‘go behind people’s backs’. She then nominated Michael, because he had offended her by joking about something personal to her.
· Vina’s nominations went to Confidence – a ‘stirrer’ and also serious competition – and Sharon O, because of her laid-back attitude to chores.
· Felicia rounded out the nomination session, picking Vina and Hanni. She said that Vina was ‘faking it’ and had constantly tried to communicate with the outside world. She chose Hanni because she felt that the Ethiopian ‘was also not being real’.
The winner of Big Brother Amplified, which is headline sponsored by Coca-Cola, will be named on 31 July, after 91 days of head-to-head competition – and the power to award to USD 200 000 prize rests in the hands of the viewers.
